History of the Nissan Rogue | Premier Nissan of Fremont

Nissan Rogue at Premier Nissan of Fremont

The Nissan Rogue is the ideal choice for buyers who are thinking about getting into the sport utility vehicle market. In fact, The Rogue is now the best-selling model for the manufacturer in the US. The model year 2020 marked the start of the third generation of this SUV.

First Generation

When Nissan started out with the Rogue, it came in three trim levels: S, SL, and SV. This trend has continued with the Rogue, with the addition of special editions on occasion. The first model of the Nissan Rogue came out in 2007 as the 2008 version. Buyers got all the basics on the base trim with air conditioning, cruise control, power doors and windows, and a stereo system as well as remote keyless entry.

Nissan put plenty of attention on safety with features like traction control and electronic brake-force distribution. ABS brakes were standard as well. Consumer’s Digest awarded the Nissan Rogue the Automotive Best Buy Award in 2010.

Nissan made some big changes within the first generation, including a redesigned dash and updated exterior with the addition of a sport-tuned exhaust. Navigation was an option along with leather seats. The addition of modern features continued to increase the appeal of the mid-size SUV to its audience.

Nissan Rogue on the Screen

Appealing to a wide audience, the Nissan Rogue became a celebrity. First featured on the TV series Heroes in 2007, the Rogue continued to garner attention. The 2017 model year included a Limited Edition for the Star Wars film, Rogue One. Only a few thousand of these models were produced.

Second Generation

The second-generation Nissan Rogue was introduced for the 2013 model year. A major change included an available model with third-row seats to fit seven passengers. This model was discontinued for the 2018 model year. Instead, Nissan focused on making the cabin more spacious for the five passengers and their cargo.

Powering the second-generation Rogue was a 2.5L I-4 engine, which was paired with the Xtronic CVT. Sport Mode was added to provide a sportier ride. Electric power-assisted steering and four-wheel independent suspension were standard across all trims. Buyers appreciated the updated version and made it the best-selling model for Nissan in 2016. This same year saw NissanConnect added with navigation.

Style changes for the Rogue included new headlights and taillights. Blind spot warning was added in 2018, along with automatic emergency braking and rear cross-traffic alert. If buyers chose the SV trim, they enjoyed the much bigger touchscreen while the SV trim included the available ProPILOT Assist package.

For 2017, a hybrid model was added with improved efficiency from regenerative braking. Passengers had under-floor storage to keep items close by. For the hybrid, a 2.0L four-cylinder engine provided the power with an electric motor and Lithium-ion battery.

Safety features were also expanded to include object detection warning and lane departure warning. A 360-degree camera was installed for improved visibility while frontal collision warning helped drivers avoid accidents. With all these additions, the Rogue became a Top Safety Pick for IIHS.

Third Generation

Nissan continues to make the Rogue appealing to buyers with the third generation. This new version was unveiled in 2020 and includes a new platform. The design is boxier with a front end that is more squared. LED lighting and two-tone body shades enhance the contemporary feel of the SUV. Changes include what isn’t seen but felt with the new 2.5L engine, still paired with the CVT. Enjoy more luxury with available heated rear seats and better connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Semi-aniline leather upholstery creates a refined feel for this latest version of a favorite.
