What is ProPILOT Assist?

Nissan ProPILOT Assist is a hands-on driver-assistance technology feature designed to make those long-distance highway trips a breeze. The ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link systems works in tandem with the navigation system to provide additional information that helps drivers better estimate the freeway ahead. Speed Adjust by Route, which can assist you to reduce your speed for tight curves and off-ramps, and Speed Limit Assist, which allows drivers to easily adjust the set speed to the imposed speed limit.

ProPILOT Assist 2.0

This new technology, which is designed for on-ramp to off-ramp (ramp-to-ramp) highway driving, works in conjunction with the vehicle's navigation system to assist the driver in following a predetermined path on approved roads. The device also allows for hands-free driving in a single lane for the first time. Drivers must first establish their destination in the navigation system, generating a planned travel path, in order to use the new system's latest features. The new system's navigated driving becomes available once the automobile gets on the highway. The new ProPILOT also allows for hands-free driving in a specific lane. When the car approaches a road divide or when passing a slower vehicle is an option, the system uses information from the navigation system and 360-degree sensors to determine the best time to branch off or pass.

General Info on ProPILOT

The ProPILOT Assist is the world's first intelligently navigated highway driving system, featuring 3D high definition map data, 360-degree sensing, and an intelligent interface, as well as high-precision satellite location technology. The map data includes centimeter-level highway road structure information, such as road curvature, slope, all lane marking information, speed limits, and signs. Using 7 cameras, 5 radar sensors, and 12 sonar sensors, the ProPILOT Assist can recognize lane markers, signs, and nearby vehicles.

How Does ProPILOT Work?

By flipping a switch, the driver can begin guided driving. Once triggered, the system will assist the driver in keeping the car in the middle of a lane and maintaining a certain distance from the preceding vehicle while maintaining a set speed. The driver will be warned via auditory and visual advice if the preceding vehicle is traveling slower than the speed selected by the driver and the system finds that it can pass. By placing both hands on the steering wheel and operating a switch, the driver can accept to pass. The vehicle will seamlessly shift into the passing lane after the driver confirms the maneuver.
