Nissan Sentra and Altima Earn IIHS Awards

Nissan takes the wheel with two major wins as Top Safety Picks from the IIHS. This year, the award goes out to both the compact Nissan Sentra and the mid-size sedan Nissan Altima. Both vehicles are certainly top sellers for the brand, and with upgrades to their headlights for the most recent models they both qualify for the top prize in the IIHS annual evaluations. Generally, the most dangerous time to drive is in the dark, and with improvements to their LED headlights, both the Altima and the Sentra aim to be as visible as possible, and enter 2021 with high accolades already under their belts.

The Nissan Sentra is a compact vehicle with a surprising amount of space and even more spirit. A rear row of folding seats allows for additional storage in addition to the already ample trunk space. The newest Sentra also boasts a wonderfully modern interior vs competitors such as the Honda civic, with a heads-up display screen, digital MID screen, and warm leather-wrapped dash. With amazing fuel economy and a powerful, zippy engine, its no wonder that the Nissan Sentra is an esteemed choice among the compact sedan market.

The Nissan Altima boasts size and luxury among the automaker’s sedan line up. The bold exterior offers high contrast in its light-capturing curves, and an aggressive front fascia owns the roadways. Inside, the dash is inlaid with natural wood and a display touchscreen offers the most up to date infotainment systems and connectivity. The vehicle’s variable compression turbo engine gives you power and efficiency depending on road conditions, and is proving to be a fun and versatile car among Nissan’s 2021 lineup.

Both Nissan vehicles share the brand’s revolutionary safety suite, Nissan Safety Shield 360. There is little doubt that the features found in Nissan Safety Shield 360 contributed to their Top Safety win with the IIHS, as they carry state of the art features to give drivers peace of mind while on the road. The suite consists of several features, that include automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic alerts with braking assist, lane departure assist and lane departure warning. The Altima also offers Nissan ProPilot Assist, which is a combination of a few automatic driving features geared towards keeping you safe on the road. The Nissan Safety Shield comes standard on ten Nissan models.

For the IIHS and Nissan, the big win comes with the automatic high beam assist within the Altima, and the modifications made to the headlights of the Sentra. The Sentra 2020 SV and the Sentra SR 2020 and 2021 models have both received improvements to their thin, LED headlights, and each model equipped with these specific headlights qualified as the IIHS Top Safety Pick.   As nearly 50% of all accidents occur due to low visibility, the recent changes and features available in both vehicles give Nissan the leading edge in mitigating the number of nighttime accidents. Through Nissan’s continuing commitment to safety, they are proud for their efforts to be recognized from the IIHS.
